Sheldon Cooper is most likely an Asexual, because he expresses no sexual desire whatsoever, and behaves as if the notion is very offputting. He is, however, not against being in a relationship with Amy Farrah Fowler. He simply deems their relationship to be “One of the mind.”
When Amy seeks physical contact, he is loathe to agree, and turns down her request for sex. The two of them finally settle on cuddling, because an Ace can make a physical compromise for their partner if they care.
“because an Ace can make a physical compromise for their partner if they care.”
This is… not so good of a sentence. I was hoping someone else would take this so I wouldn’t have to, because I’m not sure I can appropriately articulate what makes me :/ about this. Part of it is, is this just Sheldon compromising? Or was this a compromise where they both gave and came to a middle ground-type solution? I do not actually watch the show, so I don’t know, but this makes it sound like the asexual partner has to give, when in actuality both parties have to give if they want a successful relationship, even when the relationship isn’t mixed.
Another thing is, the mission statement for this blog states that the audience is asexual. If you are writing for aces, this sentence is out of place. There’s an assumption that we will compromise if we want a close relationship with a poikkisexual person, and there’s almost pressure directing aces to do so even if they don’t want to. Which brings me to “if they care.” Some aces are either unable or unwilling to compromise; that does not mean they don’t care for their partners. As an aside: why would they even be with a partner they don’t care about?
I’m sorry, just, it’s really bothering me.
