[somebody whose name I’m gonna redact because it doesn’t really matter I see this a lot and it bothers me every time] replied to your post: Asexuality and Choice
Oh God, it’s “poikkisexual” now? Please can this not happen? I really don’t care about the reasoning behind it, it looks and sounds ridiculous.
Okay, this has been driving me quietly batty, and so I apologize in advance, but the frustration is going to boil over.
Number one: ‘it’ is not anything. There is no authority from on high that can say “this is the new word we shall all universally adopt, I have declared it so!” I have seen people asking “wait, wait, what’s the decision?” There is no decision.
Number two: I prefer the word poikkisexual. Which is why I use it. It’s the one I feel I can best explain and defend to people who don’t know what I’m talking about, and furthermore I just like it. This is not a new thing with me; I have been using it consistently since I came up with it. You are welcome to your opinion about which word you prefer, but if we’re looking for actual, intuitive words, “sexual” is the only one there is in my opinion, despite the twenty or so good, honest tries from people looking to replace that very word.
Use what you want. Eventually, the usage will settle into something. See also: asexual vs. nonsexual. But I am really not in the mental place to have the patience to deal with people getting on my word choice when I put a lot of time and effort and thought into what I was going to choose.
