shaunsense replied to your post: I was wondering, since you’ve had experience with Japanese asexual communities, if you noticed any overlap between men who identified as asexual and men who considered themselves 草食系.
Is sekumai a sexuality minority? I was kinda predicting the…The word ’草食系’ is created at 2006 by Maki Fukasawa 深澤真紀(ふかさわ・まき), editor, columnist. As I researched, she has not deep knowledge about sexual minority.
And Masahiro Morioka(森岡正博), professer of department human sociology, Osaka prefecture university, has written about the thema(2011).
Title:「草食系男子」の現象学的考察(The phenomenological consideration of Sosyoku-kei men)

In this thesis, there is no word ‘asexuality’. Feminism is referred.
I researched by myself community in mixi(Japanese SNS). There are 草食系communities.

In my opinion, 草食系(sousyoku-kei) does not overlap with asexuality. They are more passive about romantic love than old generation, but they hope to have romantic relation with opposite sex(So, they are heterosexual).
草食系 people do not have romantic relation with someone now. The phenomena is similar to asexual. But it is only surface. 草食系 people may love woman/man in future(At least they hope so). Asexual people realize his/herself identity at now.
Thank you for weighing in! That was pretty much my understanding of the term as well :D
